I had a plan for Monday morning and here it is, Monday morning so time to execute the plan. I needed to get in a long run and it helps if I have a destination and I found a good one, the gravesite of Andy Warhol. He was, of course, a famous contemporary artist and was born and raised here in Pittsburgh. After he passed away, his legacy built the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh which I visits aged a few years ago and well worth the time I spent there.
While looking for interesting and unusual things in the area on Atlas Obscura, I saw that his gravesite is about 4 miles from where I am staying so I set up a route in the Google maps app and set up to go see it. It was cool out when I got going about 8am but I knew it would warm up so I carried my pint water bottle in a small pack I have and figured I could refill it somewhere along the way if I needed.
The route there took me through mostly residential neighborhoods and Pittsburgh being what it is, there were hills, lots of them. Here’s one on a downhill with bricks making up the street.
I had to run a bit on Library Road which is sort of busy and not much in the way of sidewalks..
I arrived in the heart of the borough of Castle Shannon and navigated through it and past the Willow train station.
Along the way I saw this place.
I finally arrived at the cemetery where Andy is buried.
The app led me right to his grave. Is parents are buried right behind hime.
As part of an ongoing art project called ”Figment,” there are two cameras trained on the grave and feeding the image, live, 24/7.
I pulled the image up on my phone and then stood next to the grave so I could get a screenshot selfie.
I arrived back in one piece and satisfied that I got in a run and got to visit the gravesite. Here are some stats for the run.
The middle of the day was just about taking it it easy and early in the evening, I rode my motorcycle over to my son’s other place so we could do some maintenance on our bikes before our upcoming outing. I needed an oils change, as did he, but he was also replacing his rear shock.
