2025 Eastbound Trip 1 - Day 12

June 10, 2025

With very little structure in my life right now, the days are running together and I’m hoping that I have the day count and the dates right as I make these entries, not that it really matters.  Today was a Tuesday and It was full of adventure.

The first task was to get the tires rotated on the car and we had an appointment at the Tesla Service Center in Wexford, which is on the north side of Pittsburgh.  We did the drive and hit a bit of traffic since it was go-to-work time but once we cleared downtown, it was wide open.

Just a short reflection on the speed limit and driving habits here.  The speed limits on the freeways in the city tend to be 50 or 55 MPH.  The average speed people drive is 10-15 MPH over that.  I just stay with the flow.

We got to the Service Center and used the Tesla app to let them know we were here and just left the car in the lot.  The dog got walked while I went to the showroom and looked at the various models.  Bart the Dog would like to ride in one of these.

With the tire rotation complete, we got on our way.  We’ve been curious about this part of Pittsburgh and spend the next hour or so touring Wexford, Franklin Park, Ingomar, and other areas seeing what the area was like and using Zillow to tell us about property values.  Wexford is very upscale and we knew that when we drove in and passed auto dealers for Land Cruiser, Jaguars, Volvo, Lexus, Bentley, and Maserati.  Most of the neighborhoods have names, like “Tanglewood,” and the homes are quite large.  Franklin Park was more to my liking with older homes, lots of trees, as well as space between the properties.  Like everything in this region, it hilly and none of the roads are straight.  I like it.

We went to a grocery store to pick up some supplies.  Grocery shopping is one of my favorite activities and I like looking through stores in different regions to see what they have that is different from what I find in Billings.  We were at a Giant Eagle, a big chain here, and this one has a liquor department.  We found a non-alcoholic Peanut Butter Porter and found that we had to pay for it a special register, sort of like Wyoming does.  I didn’t raise the issue as to why a nonalcoholic beverage needed to be paid for that way but whatever.   Next we stopped at a Supercharger to top off to 80% for the long drive we plan to do tomorrow.

The evening was lots of fun as I joined my son and his girlfriend for a night on the town.  We headed to the Strip District which a former industrial area that has been repurposed as a pretty trendy place with shops, restaurants, etc.

We went to the Aslin Beer Company for beer and pizza. Let’s just say that I knew that I wasn’t in Montana anymore.  The place was hopping.  It pretty large inside and full of picnic table in different sections. In one area, the tables have chess boards and there were lots of people enjoying a game with their food and drink.  Upstairs, a loft, was the Silent Book Club.  Here are some views.

It was pretty loud inside since in the section on the other side of the stairs it was Drag Queen Bingo night.  Yes, and it was packed.  People were playing bingo and the numbers were being called out by drag queens with lots of fanfare.  We sat just outside but could watch the proceedings through the windows.  Once a game was won, the music cranked up and the drag queens danced with the patrons holding out dollars bills.  It looked like lots of fun.  I don’t think there was an age restriction here so I think this would be illegal in Montana.  I really could get good photos through the glass but here’s one of the queens, the one that had more clothes on.

Next we went to another brewery and walked past the original Primanti Brothers location.

A few more views of the Strip District.

We had beer at the next brewery and some good conversation.  This place was pretty quiet.

After that they dropped me off and I callled it a day, a good one.
