I got out for run this morning, early, to avoid the some of the heat that is coming this way. The only destination I had was to be sure to check out the houses on Klein Street nearby. Wow. There are more than one that if they popped up for sale I’d consider buying. A nice, dead end street, pretty flat, and the homes are well spaced and several have 2-car garages.
Today’s assignment was to take care of my son’s dog while he, his girlfriend and her twin sister, ran the Rachel Carson 37 mile Trail Run. We also were tasked to meet them at mile 25 with their refresh bags.
We had no idea how long it would take them to get to this spot so we headed out early and waited in a very nice public part. He shares his location with me so I could track him on my phone. While I waited I sat at a picnic table in the shade and worked on a drawing in my sketchbook while I listened to a new(ish) Paul Temple mystery from BBC radio. I also walked around the park and saw some wildlife.
They showed up about 1:30 and took a break while they dealt with shoes, socks, etc.
The finish line is in North Park so we drove over there. The place was packed with cars and we discovered that there are no dogs allowed in the park so rather than leave the dogs in the car, we headed back to where we are staying in the South Hills.
While our resources are limited since the house hasn’t been moved into yet, we do have some supplies and tools so I threw together a yeasted pizza crust and got it rising. Then I headed to the local beer distributor since I was out of IPA.
This delicious brew is from the heart of Pennsylvania and they are not shy about adding the hops. It’s very good.
And while I am thinking about it, the range of beer styles available here is almost overwhelming. I mean, a chocolate mint stout? A range of peanut butter stouts and porters? A wall of just IPA with IBUs and AVB all over the place? Even though we do have some selection in Billings, many of them are the same as the one that sits next to them on the shelf.
So, that pretty much was today. Tomorrow is supposed to set records for heat with the heat index at least 105. We are talking about going to an outdoor concert tomorrow so we’ll just have to see how that plays out.
We plan to leave on Monday so tomorrow is laundry, clean the house for the next tenants, and pack up. I’m also going to try to fit in a trip to Trader Joe’s.
