2025 Eastbound Trip - Day 6

June 4, 2025

Today was the last day of this portion of the adventure and it was a long one. We crossed another time zone lost an hour so when I went out for a run it was already 7am.  We are at the Whitewater Memorial State Park in Indiana where there are trails through the woods and a large lake.  I headed out on a trail that led from our campsite, down a ways through the woods, and ended up at the beach for the lake.  Here’s some photos:

After visiting the beach, I ran the Cattail Trail for a bit which winds around the lake.

There was lots of bird-type wildlife about including a goose with a dozen of babies paddling around.

I got back to camp, cooled down, had a bagel, and then visited the bathhouse for a shower.  The campsite got taken down and everything packed up.  Today’s routes were discussed and we got on the road.  She was headed to Brookville, OH to see the house where her dad grew up.  I headed out on the backroads, aiming for Dayton.

We met at the charging station in Dayton, visited for a view minutes, discussed routes, and got on our way.  She’s on a direct route on the freeway and my plan is to stay on backroads until I am well-passed Columbus.

I went through some might fine neighborhoods in east Dayton and then looped around part of the Wright-Patterson air base.  The smaller roads I got in were really out in the country and I pretty much had them all to myself.  At one point, I came to a “Road Closed” sign and had to ignore the navigation aid I could hear in my helmet and just follow the “Detour” sign.  I ended up on some really small roads.

The scenery doesn’t vary much but it’s still quite impressive.

In Circleville, I stopped for gas and searched out a place for a sandwich.

After a bite to eat, I got rolling again but headed north to pick up the freeway, I70.  Somewhere past Triadelphia, I stopped at a Sheetz for gas.  I didn’t get something to eat but last year I had a quite good burrito at one of these.

Onward I went.  I rode the freeway for quite a ways pulled into a rest stop to both use the facilities and to wake myself up..  I changed up what I had playing in my headphone to a radio show I’d brought “Stars Wars for Radio” and that helped melt the miles.

I arrived in Pittsburgh and took a roundabout way to my son’s house, traveling through Dumont and other neighborhoods before pulling up the alley behind his place.  They much have been watching me on their phones because as I pulled up to his garage, the door opened and I could ride right in.

We visited for a bit and then went over to his new house, about a half-mile away.  He’s still working on it so hasn’t moved yet but it’s highly livable and he had it set up for us to be our home for the time we are here.

It was a 337 mile day bringing the total for the last 6 days to 2,187 miles.  Since I started this season’s riding, I’ve covered 4,389 miles in the past 16 days.
