2025 Eastbiund Trip 1 - Day 26

June 24, 2025

A long day on the road again.  After morning stuff, which, for me, included a run for 20-30 minutes until the bugs drove me off the trail, followed by a showed, breakfast and, of course, packing.

We got the road by 9am and went our separate ways.  I use the Google maps app to chart me a non-highway route to our next campground.  That worked pretty well with some variations during the day.

One of my first stops was in the town of Centerville, Indiana to check out this mural.

I continued on and spied this mural in New Castle, Indiana.

From there it was an assortment of back roads for many, many miles.  It was warm with the temperature getting up to the mid-90s but I was stopping every hour to down some water so I am feeling much better than yesterday.

Near Kirklin, I stopped for water and took a few photos.

Down the road a bit, I was routed on county roads, little roads that are paved but that’s about it.  Here’s one near Frankfurt, Indiana.

About 2pm, I was finally getting back to more developed roads when I had to cross some railroad tracks.  The space between the tracks was filled in by lumber that had rotted away long ago.  The bike made it through but is was jarring and bumpy.  I immediately noticed that my “Check Engine” light went of and my cruise control indicator was flashing.

I pulled onto the highway and, sure enough, my cruise control no longer functioned,  I’ve had this happen before so I figured it was an error from the IMU (Intertial Motion Unit) caused my sensors that spike over that rough rode.  The cruise would not work again until the code is cleared.  Luckily I have an OBD reader with me so I started looked for a stay spot to pull over.

About 10 miles down the road I saw a school near Oxford and pulling into their lots and parked under a large, shady tree.  The reader is in a side case so I had to unpack to get to that and then had to remove my seats to get to the test connector.

The reader needs a 4-pin adapter which I have and it didn’t take long to see the error code, C0520.

I doubled check the manual (which I have digitized in the cloud) and then cleared the code.  Now to repack

I got back on the highway and the Check Engine light was out and the cruise control functioned again.

Near Ransom, IL I had to wait for a train.

Then it was more back roads.

I arrived at Shabbona Lake State Park in Illinois about 5pm.  A photo of the bike and the lake.

My wife and the dog were still on the roads and it appeared that a store was coming in so I sat up my tent so when it did I’d have somewhere to stay dry.

It was 335 mile day.
