April 30, 2021:
I had an appointment today to get the bike title, registered, and plated. We walked right up to an open window at 1pm and it took less than 10 minutes to get it done. It was amusing that the first plate she pulled off the stack started with the letters DCK and she asked if that was OK. Hmmm, my wife said "Probably not." The clerk said that if we asked for a personalized plate with that, the computer would reject it. She pulled a different one that stared with DCL with seems pretty benign. She filled out a form on the computer and asked for my phone number. When she saw that 666 appeared prominently in the number she asked if I wanted a plate with 666 as the numbers. Uh, no. I don't need to encourage someone to vandalize the bike. She said she has a stack of those because so many people refuse them or bring them back.
I paid the fee, $102, and received my permanent plate. It seems that all "toys," like motorcycles, ATVs, boats, etc. get a permanent plate in Montana and I will never have to register it again. I was surprised because a car has to be 11 years old before you can get a permanent plate. Such a deal.
